Help In Pushing Back Against the Non-Consensual Installment of a Smart / Digital Meter on Your Dwelling

Over time, we have wittingly or not, both received and collected the following information on various things you can do when faced with the installation of a smart meter against your will. (Here we are NOT referring to the City of Longmont’s / Longmont Power CO’s “opt-out” program, copied and pasted from the city site, directly below, which we view as extortion, and “paying for protection” against two invisible intruders [RF radiofrequency waves / dirty electricity] that come from both broadcasting “smart” meters and non broadcasting “opt-out” digital meters. Not to mention being forced to accept a known fire risk onto the side of your dwelling.)

The City of Longmont’s Opt-Out Program

We include here from the City’s site, further details on the opt-out program that also has a link to the page where you may do so. Once you study the many other contents below this section from the City’s site, you may wish to think twice about your course of action, but whatever you choose to do, whether it is opting out via the City site or other, that is your personal decision, hopefully informed by at least some of the information provided on this site, but totally your own choice. We wish you all, all the best.

THREE Q & A – TAKEN DIRECTLY FROM THE CITY’S SITE:

How do I opt out?  Simply follow the link to our AMI opt-out form (English) or Opción de exclusión del proyecto de medición avanzada (Español) and then fill it out and submit it online. Please note that there is an extra cost for opting out after your advanced meter has been installed. If you need assistance with the opt-out form, please give us a call at 303-651-8386

Are there any health impacts from advanced meters? Agencies that study health effects and regulate radio frequency (RF) technologies such as the Federal Communications Commission and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health have determined that advanced metering equipment is safe for use in and near homes. According to the FCC, RF levels are greater in cell phones (almost 13,000 times greater), microwave ovens (about 300 times greater) and home Wi-Fi routers (almost 70 times greater) than from an AMI meter. Similar conclusions about AMI safety have been reached elsewhere; for one example, see this fact sheet from Canadian health officials. Information about this and other common AMI-related questions is also available from the Smart Energy Consumer Collaborative.

What safety standards govern advanced meters? Advanced meters must meet the standards and requirements of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), specifically the National Electric Safety Code (NESC). Our meters also meet UL 2735 certification, a utility meter safety standard that includes fire safety requirements.

LONGMONT4SAFETECH’S RESPONSE TO THE ABOVE Q & A:

As regards health effects, we refer you to the Toxic EMF page on this site, then we suggest visiting the Legal page that speaks to the FCC lawsuit; we then recommend you read the (proposed)  Resolution for a Moratorium on Smart Meters in Longmont. In our opinion, the decision makers in our city have clearly not been kept up to date by ‘somebody’ responsible for fully informing them (other than we the citizenry) on
1) the overwhelming (independent) science on EMF/RF/non-ionizing radiation harms   and
2) the landmark FCC suit that ruled against the FCC and its failure to responsibly update its antiquated rf guidelines, and
3) possible code violations discovered and presented to our city by Master Electrician Josiah Mueller

Strategies for Protecting Yourself Against the Installation of a Smart Meter…….

DISCLAIMER:  We cannot personally vouch for the efficacy of any of these strategies, and we therefore encourage anyone reading the below to do your own research and due diligence before deciding what course of action to take. In the meantime, as people in Longmont who are concerned with halting unsafe technology in our city, we would also ask you for your financial pledge to help get us into position, to potentially acquire the very best legal counsel to assist in moving us all towards safe technology in Longmont (and hence, everywhere else). This is a lofty goal, and will cost a lot of money to get us where we want to be, that is why every pledge counts.

“SEND NOTICE” TAKEN FROM STOP SMART METERS UK “DON’T SMART METER ME” SITE
NOTICE OF NON-CONSENT FOR ‘SMART’ METER INSTALLATION, NOTICE OF LIABILITY
For the attention of the Chief Executive and other Board Directors…..see pdf file at above link to print out, edit and send, this is from the UK but you can edit for your situation.

SIGNAGE: (Thank you, Niwot) A simple sign saying something like “no trespassing” “no tampering” “do not install smart-meter” would be more effective in stopping a utility sub-contractor when they come to install. (They aren’t going to call the sheriff first for permission, and as far as they’ve been told, you consented.) Placing a sign like this on/near the old electric meter, and unavoidably in their line of vision, you speak directly to the agent (the person doing the installing), and they can’t ignore it.
Here is a more detailed legal notice to post by the meter.

SAMPLE  ‘FIRE/EXPLOSION’ WARNING NOTICE HERE
This may be copied and pasted into another document etc.

Sample Letters to Utility from Stop Smart Meters dot Org……These sample letters are provided as informational resources only. Note that whether or not your utility has a formal opt out policy you still have the legal right to have a smart meter removed from your residence.

Smart Meter ResourcesWe are not ‘Opting Out,’ We Are Refusing to Opt In…… The following is written for customers of PG&E in Northern California, but it is also applicable to customers of other utilities around the US and internationally who are unjustifiably charging steep penalties simply to retain one’s analog utility meter.
This is from 2012 but may contain something relevant to you.

How to “say no” to smart meters from Bill Bathgate and Virginians for Safe Tech, Bill is another expert’s expert on the topic of smart meters and more…..this single link is a wealth and treasure trove of information to assist you in your journey with pushing back against this toxic technology. (Do you have a “smart” meter on your home and don’t want to sign the opt-out form? Is a “smart” meter on your business or barn and you can’t opt out? See the above link for suggestions and solutions from the experts.)

NOTICE OF LIABILITY – JERRY DAY
You will find further references and many more educational resources by clicking through the links at this page, including the download of Jerry Day’s Notice of Liability regarding the installing of a smart meter.

AFFIDAVIT/NOTICE OF LIABILITY that can be rewritten/retooled and tailored to a smart meter situation, but that is currently in use giving notice to the sponsor, Rep. Earl Carter, of a toxic bill  moving through the legislature in DC, H.R.3557. And, by all means, you are invited, welcome and requested to also send it as is, to Rep. Earl Carter who is NOT acting in your interest in sponsoring this bad bill.
